Shirley J Kim, M.D.
Assistant Professor
About Shirley J Kim
My name is Shirley Kim, MD, and I am an assistant professor of medicine in the division of general internal medicine. I grew up in Seoul, South Korea and moved to Ohio for my undergraduate studies at Case Western Reserve University. My practice focuses on preventive care, with an emphasis on chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, asthma and COPD. I am committed to improving quality of life for my patients, and to providing continuity of care for the best health outcomes.
I was inspired to become a doctor while in Ohio, where I discovered my passion for medicine, driven by my academic, research and volunteer experiences. To pursue my dream, I chose to remain in Ohio for my medical education. I received my medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed my residency at Summa Health System.
My experiences have not only shaped my professional identity but have also instilled in me the values of compassion, lifelong learning, and a commitment to the well-being of others. Recently, I relocated to Gainesville with my fiancé, marking an exciting new chapter in both our personal and professional lives. I am thrilled to be part of the vibrant healthcare and academic community here, where I look forward to contributing to patient care, education and research.
When not at work, I enjoy traveling and trying new food.
