About Lucy Guerra
Hello, I am Dr. Lucy Guerra. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. Before that, I earned a Master of Public Health in Public Health and Epidemiology from a joint Florida International University and University of Miami program and a Bachelor of Arts in premedical sciences and American Studies from Amherst College. My Internal Medicine Internship and Residency was completed at Cornell-Columbia Presbyterian and the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
During my tenure as a faculty member at the University of South Florida, I assumed various leadership roles while maintaining my fervor for medical education, patient care and clinical research. My research spanned diverse areas, including vaccinations, trauma, Long Covid and healthcare accessibility. I served as the Division Director for General Internal Medicine, Medical Director for the Tampa General Hospital Specialty Clinic and Medical Director of Gulfcoast Jewish Family Community Refugee Services.
Since joining the University of Florida in January 2024, I serve as a faculty facilitator for first-year students in the Collaborative Learning Group (CLG) and Health Systems Science (HSS) courses, mentor second-year students in their clinical skills development, and play a key role in shaping third-year clerkship experience. I also mentor and work with many first through fourth year students through my volunteer work with the Equal Access Clinic and Mobile Food Pharmacy. In addition, I am a clinical preceptor in the Internal Medicine continuity clinic for Internal Medicine residents and participate in their didactic learning sessions, and noon conferences.
Of Cuban heritage, I am bilingual in English and Spanish. Outside of my professional pursuits, I find joy in spending time with my family and volunteering at my local Catholic parish. My three children are a source of immense pride for me. In terms of patient care, I have a particular interest in hypertension, diabetes, women’s health topics and chronic illnesses. Inspired by the dedication of my father and uncle, both physicians who served underserved communities, I strive to provide compassionate care to my patients, ensuring they receive the level of attention and empathy I would want for my own family members.
